A Letter to a Stranger

Hello Stranger.
I have seen a lot of post-it notes floating around recently aimed towards strangers armed with inspiration messages and I felt inspired. I also feel like maybe, just maybe... this too might get around to someone who needs a smile or uplifting thought. I think the most important thing in life is to just take a second to appreciate such small acts of kindness presented before you. It's the small things that make the world go round. Now I wish I could say that I actually follow this advice that I'm about to give you...and it's not that I don't try to, because I do. Honestly. But nobody's perfect. That's also why I'm not quite sure if I'm writing this more for you ... or for me.

1. Don't judge people. You never know when that "girly girl" is gonna become one of your closest friends.
2. Leave nothing unsaid. Tell people how you feel and don't be afraid to do so. This is probably the hardest thing to do because of feelings and drama tied to every word. But you know what? If you tell them how you really feel now, then you're not hiding anything and I know for a fact. Being able to express yourself. Truly express yourself is a rare occurance. If someone is kind enough to give you that opportunity. Grasp it with both hands and hold on tight.
3. Laugh. I tell you, it makes everything better. Especially when you've just been putting on a dramatic song and dance performance in your own room wrapped up in a dog leash that happened to be hooked on to the handle of the wardrobe in your dorm room, when you can't sing and dance in the first place... and you lean too far to the right not just falling to the floor but taking the whole dang door with you. Don't think about how much money it's going to cost to repair such a wardrobe.. in fact don't even think. just laugh. and yes... that did happen to me. Don't ask about why I have a dog leash tied to my dresser either haha let's just say I tend to wander a lot and they thought it fitting to restrain me :)
4. Help someone else out. Don't think about what's in it for you. Just do it. Remember it's the small things that make life beautiful. So make someone else's life beautiful by doing small things.
5. Exercise. Get into a routine. And don't ever mess it up. Then mess it up just to see what happens but don't you dare forget to get back into it. That's the hardest part. I started working out with the help of a girl on my hall but that ended pretty quick. I tried to do it on my own by using youtube workout videos. Eight minute abs with the shirtless man in the grass encouraging me through the whole process: "What do you want your buns to look like?" I tell you, it makes you work harder. Either way, I've stopped and I need to get back into it. Remind me someday?
6. Pray. Whether you believe in a higher power or not because sometimes it just doesn't matter. keep on asking. don't give up, because God's timing is perfect, and he will answer :)
7. Pay attention in class. This may seem ironic because I’m actually typing this in English class but honestly, they’re not lying when they say an education is one of the most important things an individual can possess.
8. Stop Complaining. This is life. Don't fight it, live it!
9. Learn How to use a camera. Use it. Pictures are some of the most valuable and cherished memories one can have.
10. Be. Random. And. Just. Go. For. It.

So yeah. I think, being it's 3:31 in the morning I might call it a night. But stranger, thank you for letting me speak to you. Thank you for reading. Made me feel better at least. Now, maybe. Just maybe. We can be friends?
Catch ya later,
S.
