Shawty I could take you there!

I sat quietly in the driver’s seat of the vehicle. Tuan (twinky) and Eric were in the car with me. There was slow music plugged into a video system without any video screen, so basically we were listening to a movie that seemed to have a soundtrack that resembled solely classical music. I happened to glance out the window and saw a girl walking up to the side of the car and requests that we play some faster music. I replied, “Sure, what do you want to hear?” Beethoven beat the piano in the background. “Take you there.” “OK! I have that song on my iPod.” Excited, I unplugged the nonexistent movie and plugged in my iPod instead. But no matter how hard I tried I could not change the song. The girl then proceeded to threaten me: “If you don’t find the song I will cut you” grabbing my wrist in the midst of her sentence. Somehow I was just brainwashed into believing that her actions were justified and did not fight the blade as it scraped against my skin, carving out the first letter: “P”.
I was searching for the song as the lyrics began to roll quietly off my tongue unintentionally, not paying any attention to the blood trickling down my left forearm or the girl responsible. “We can go to the tropics, sip Pina Coladas, Shawty I could take you there. Or we can go to the slums where killers get hung, Shawty I could take you there!”
I scrolled up and down on the itouch eventually seeing the title but instead of clicking on it like a normal person would, my thumb instead pushed down on the song above it. The wrong song. I clicked back, attempting to try again but with no luck. The second letter formed a little farther away from the first, but behind it almost as if she was spelling something backwards. Twinky and Eric just gazed intently at me, unable to help.
All the sudden I had this strong urge to believe that the song was by Luke Bryan when in reality it was sung by Sean Kingston. I was so set on Luke Bryan being the artist that when I found his name and clicked it to reveal the songs he wrote, overcoming the difficulty of the off centered touch that I had acquired since beginning and did not find the title of the song, I simply clicked the home button and declared myself a failure. “Sorry, I guess I actually don’t have that song” I whispered to the girl outside the door but she was already gone. I glanced at my arm and staring back at me were the words: “MACHO P” in very clear, very large letters. I looked up, confused, then back at the arm. That’s when the pain hit me head on. I tried to hold it in but a single tear drop rolled off the side of my cheek signaling to the boys that I was incapable of driving any farther. Regrettably I took my place in the backseat…and woke up.

What would you do if...

What would you do if...

...You were stranded in a forest alone
sit down. then stand up. walk around. collect wood. Build a fire. Then probably attempt to build a shelter. maybe fail. maybe never go to sleep. then probably call for help. loudly.

...You sensed someone stalking you
I would turn around. Say stop stalking me I have a gun. actually I have two. show them my muscles.... and then run.

...You suddenly developed superhuman strength
I would save the world..duh.

...You saw a dead cat
Walk the other way. I don't really like cats. especially dead ones.

...You saw a dead human
Freak out. Then cry. Honestly, I have no idea what I would do...

...Someone anonymously sent you a love note
I would smile. and wonder who.

...You become blind
cry a little bit. and then try to learn braille slash be really super sensitive or whatever like daredevil. And then when that fails go and actually spend the five thousand dollars on a hearing aide.

...Your car breaks down beside a graveyard
I would not get out of the car. call someone. then probably fall asleep..
...Your bestfriend calls you at 4am
I'll answer. If I hear it I tend to be a heavy sleeper. and wonder if they're ok cause that's awful early to be calling someone.

...You could bring back anyone from 6 feet under
my grandmother. healthy.

...Someone kept staring at you
First try to ignore it. then call it a staring contest and stare back.

...Someone ate your lunch
Be confused. Then ask if they wanted change to get a cookie from the snack bar for desert.

...You're at a stranger's funeral
Morn. like everyone else.

...You got 100 free spray cans
paint the sidewalks then some random brick wall cause that's classy. then place them in my room until i came up with something more entertaining to paint and then go back and paint again.

...A horse came chasing after you
I would probably run for a bit and then duck and cover my head and hope it doesn't crush me to pieces. or if I had super human strength I would stop it in it's tracks and hop on for the ride!

Backseat Dreamers

One time I was sleeping, and Summer attempted to wake me from my slumber. Now after a few beatings in the head with a pillow, multiple nudges and the mention of my name I realized she was there. Only problem was, my eyes were not opening. My body was in dream mode and I could visualize her presence and her voice but they were outside my grasp. I responded, sure. Told her my eyes were not opening...and not not on purpose! That middle period, an interruption between dreams  is the reason why I cannot remember every single piece of the plethora of dreams I experienced during both of my 8 hour car ride down to Charleston, South Carolina stuffed between my two brothers in the backseat of our van. here are the pieces I managed to scribble down:

I was hovering over a table working on a project that I was having trouble seeing because it was so small. I wore goggles and there was someone helping me on the other side of the table but the job was not getting done. There were a couple people playing cards playing cards in the above storage area that was created very similar to the way the employees hung out in the movie "Employer of the Month"....

...Dad ran three red lights as I try to scream stop but have no voice...

...Man who I usually see bowling across the highway wants my number. Tries to give me his but I can't hear all the numbers and they get jumbled up as I'm wisked away by another force...

...Reached a yard with giant plastic towers like legos. Looking up I saw a group of people run past with binoculars like tourists screaming, "Elmo's inside!"...

...Giant afro tourguide led us through the museum which turned out to have a very rocky pathway which I wasn't following and then turned into a full blown cave...

...Standing on the top of a mountain singing to the world...well.

Sorry I don't have the full story. It's hard to bring yourself to wake up even long enough to write down even just a few words. But now that I'm back in my own bed with plenty of hours to sleep I think I might have something good for tomorrow. G'night!

Bak en the Day win i culdnot spell good but still did good.

I figure since I can't seem to remember any of my dreams really recently I'd reminisce a little bit. A couple days ago... ok seven years ago, my family went to Guatemala on a mission trip to build stoves for families in a city whose name I cannot remember. It was my first trip outside the country so my mom recommended that I write down what we did each day in a small notebook kindof like a diary. I found that diary. This is my story:

Day 1- 4/5/03 [Trip to/arriving in Guatemala]
We got our passports and our boarding passes (for the plane) and we began our jurney. (Spelling mistakes are due to my age. geez. hehe I was never a good speller. get over it)
Mom and i were the only ones in our family who didn't have a inspection for our body. eric had one for a object in the first aid kit. Brad got stopped because of his hat and his boots, and I'm not sure what dad got stopped for. Well anyway, we then got on the plane and man, we ran fast. We were soon in the air riding with the cloads, then we were above them soaring free. But on the way up your ears were killing you. They were popping likes crazy. On the way down it was even worse, but I haven't gotten to that part yet. We saw a movie. Spirit. We saw wonderful and beautiful landmarks were water meets the land. I will remember (yes the word was underlined) to take pictures of that on the way home. i forgot on the way there.
We borderd to planes. Both of wich I have the remaining part of the bording passes. (One was long the other was short, airplane rides) They're in the front pocket of the journal. We waited in a hallway for about half an hour, we played cards, waiting for the busses that would take us to our place that we would stay. This ride took 4 hours. As soon as we arrived we all jumped out of the vans and into the building. (big jump!!) We unpacked our stuff got a room, I have a room with mom and dad. (3 beds). We then filed downstairs into the dining room so we could eat. We had a huge dinner and by time you were done you were ready for bed so thats what we did. I slept in the far left side of the room near the window. Well that's all for today.

Day 2- 4/6/03 [In Guatemala]
Today we are going to learn how to make the stoves. there are plenty of beautiful sites to see, and there are plenty of kids to play with. Big-small, tall-short, and everything in between. We brought out all of our materials for making the stoves and sorted them into ten groups (one for each stove). everyone is so nice and even though I don't speak thier language but they're still kind and it seems like they are still talking to you. Oh and man they are strong, while I carry one cinder block they have little 4 year olds that are caring 2. They have little kids carring 3 on his back and they have to walk a long way to get to his house. While one person from our group would be carrieng (almost got the spelling right! I just keep trying haha. that's dedication) one brick anouther older woman would be caring (woops we're back tracking now) three cinderblocks in one hand, a stove top (really heavy) on her head, and a baby on her back... can you believe it? (It's true though, those natives were very very strong. You think I'm exaggerating...)
they have tons of animals there. They have chicken, turkey, pigs, cow, horses and all these animals help one family make a living. Goat was milk which sold for money. Goats and sheep were also there. (hehe I like goats) Everyting there is wonderful only different then ours here. I'm looking forward to tommarow.
- Sarah (yes. I did sign each entry. Just in case i forgot who I was. You know how it is)

Day 3- 4/7/03 [Building Stoves]
Today we built our stoves and even if we didn't finish it the mason will. First we made the cement and flattend out the ground. We laid the cement blocks out and cemented them together then filled it with sand. We will finish the stoves tommarow and help in the schools. Our family (that we built the stove for) had 6 kids and a mom and dad. The dad, my dad, and I were working on the stove while others were outside playing. Tonight we had a lecture on cultures and how humans are exactly like the universe. (mmhmm don't remember that at all..) This is what i did today. (I'm so good at wrapping things up with one quick sentence lol)
- Sarah

Day 4- 4/7/03 [Finishing the stove/helping in schools]
This morning we had cereal, bread and pineapples too. for breakfast. Then we went to the school (that we've been going to) and went into the classrooms and played with the kids outside. We played soccer and catch and just ran around. We tought them how to play duck, duck, goose and Hockey Pockey. They taught us how to play cat and Mouse. That was a game where everyone made a circle and one person was the cat and anouther person was the mouse. the cat and the mouse have a conversation then the cat tries to catch the mouse and the people of the circle tried to prevent the cat from getting the mouse. (fwew! that was definitely a difficult game to understand.)  This was a game that the people of Guatemala taught us. We then went down and finished our stoves. Ours looked great. (YAY!) in our family there were four boys, Paublo and three other boys (HAHA i like how i can only remember Paublo) and two girls, Olga and maria. There was the baby which I included in as a boy. Everyone was very friendly, and they even held a party in honor of us. There was pine needles on the ground which they only put out for realy special cerimonies. (They also had soda. Which was a big deal because one bottle of soda was an entire day's salary. They were really happy to have us there and to share this experience with them. They're gratitude was amazing. Something I won't forget. Not to be corny or anything. And I didn't even like soda at the time. I just remember how expensive, and yet how happy they were to have us there and to be able to do hold this kind of celebration for us.) This is quite a pleasure just to be here. Then we gave our gifts and said our goodbyes because we are not going back there. We are going to the market tommarow and I hope to find something to buy.
- Sarah

Day 5-4/10/03 (date's are a little mixed up.. woops...) [The Market]
Today we went to the market and man it was crowded! We stopped at a smaller place to wait for the other van and all the people that wanted to sell somthing were in the car and swarmed around us trieng to get us to borrow bargain with us. We ended up buying some hackysacks and dolls and i bought the pen that I have am writing with. then when we were so into in and about to buy somthing else the other van passed us so we had to go. Then we stopped at anouther place, not the market but a smaller store and there we also bought things but nobody to swarm us. So we could just look around peacefully.
Then, the market! We got out of the car and started walking to the bank (to change american dollars into Quetzalies (Guatemalan Money) (Hehehe yes that was just like a parenthesis inside a parenthesis that doesn't end anywhere. I'm such a cute lil' kid.) Then dad was swarmed by ladies with blankets that were so kool and they had designes and they followed him through the whole market triing to bargain with him but he never took it. I bought a flute with a quetzal on it (never did figure out how to play that thing...) and a shirt with a quetzal, state bird, and awsome designs on it, and a cool mask. (which is currently hanging to the right of my bed here at home. It is what I believe to be a wolf's face with different designs in sections across the face. There are paw prints and zebra stripes, haha even as a little kid I was indecisive! Some things never change. Anyway...) I liked the market and loved all of the different designs and colors in all of the items. I liked everyting and hope to experience something like that once again.
- Sarah

Day 6- 4/11/03 [The Spring/Going to the Mam Village]
Today i went with the whole group and we drove to the Mam village, the place where the people there speak Mam. (.... really?... woah..) We had to walk up a big hill to get to the village and that was or took a long time! Most of the people in our group wore flip flops or sandles and their feet got realy dirty. Luckiely I was wearing tennis shoes. (Smart girl.) When we got there we listened to them talk and sing songs then we got to see the chicken coop and head home. Later on...
We are on our way to the spring. Wow, another guy just hit the side of the car and made a scratch (he didn't stop eiether) (I was sleeping with my head against the window and I remember this point because when that car hit ours, my head bounced back against that window so hard.. so rude. Ok mind you I think I forgot to mention we're riding up to the top of a mountain. Meaning we're on a cliff. Meaning. woah now. that's a far drop and i could have died if you hit any harder. Thanks dude. Now on to the spring, sorry) The spring was warm and hot in some places. There were people there with only the underwear and girls without shirts. Good thing we bought our bathing suites. We stayed for about half an hour then headed back. That's all for today.
- Sarah

Day 7- 4/12/03 [Lake/Antigua]
We are going to the lake, the most beatiful in the world! It had about three volcanoes on the far side and it was pretty foggy so we could barely see but it was still pretty. Then we went to Antigua. This was were we slept for the night and ate before we go home. We had a exelent lunch, cheesburger that was huge, chips and sal milk shakes. Then we all got to look around and swim in the pool. This what we did today.
- Sarah

Day 8- no date. [Flying Home]
Today we are going home. I will get the bording passes and passports then get on the plane. We watched the last castle (a movie) and that was pretty good. Now we are getting close time to change the time back forward an hour. We played cards on the plane and the hotel shuttle will pick us up and take us home then we will retrieve our own cars and head home. Two more long hours. Well, now we're home. I'll write later.
- Sarah

So yeah. That's my trip. I was eleven years old and yet some of those memories are vivid even today as a freshman in college. I found the notes and had forgotten how amazing that trip really was and what an impact that experience had on my life. Not to mention how silly I was as a little kid :)

Walmart

I entered Walmart with a shopping list. I also remember thinking to myself that there was no way that I was going to find everything on that list. As I began to wander the aisles I saw a few steps ahead of me facing the opposite was a kid in a black dog costume. The head of the costume had been knocked off and I could see little tuffs of hair poking out the top proving that the animal was indeed a human. Next to the child was what I assumed to be his parental unit dressed as Winnie the Pooh but who could have just as easily been Winnie the Pooh himself. The character was a little bigger than normal, wore a tight red shirt surrounding a yellow body fitting the description of the honey-loving bear perfectly. I of course, paid no mind knowing that these characters were not on my list.
Turning the corner I found Molly Michie, an old friend from my home in Charlottesville who was also roaming the aisles. We walked together for a while which was nice cause I hadn't seen her in a while and we needed to catch up.
All the sudden there was music in the background, joyous music that for some reason made me laugh. A bunch of guys standing on a platform were singing parody's to what I had originally believed to be christmas tunes, but instead was the recognizable children's song: "If you're happy and you know it clap your hands!" Instead of the normal song lyrics though, these Walmart employees had made up their own thanksgiving themed words. "Turkey turkey turkey turkey turkey turkey" was sung at one point and lots of other foods were tossed around as well like "big mac with lettuce and lots of cheese, peas and carrots I will have number 3!" It was a strange song but these guys were belting it out making the whole thing seem perfectly normal.
Then outside the store we could hear the skies opening up as the rain poured down. I opened my eyes entering reality as the air conditioner kicked back on mimicking that torrential downpour from my dream.

The Descent

A couple friends and I were dressed up all fancy getting ready to go to a party. The entrance was pretty far away though and we walked through a maze in order to arrive at our destination. After reaching the far side, we then spoke with a man for a few minutes who proceeded to tell us that the door was locked and no more people were getting in. Disappointed, but not crying over the loss, we turned around to head back home. Instead of the maze-like walkway we used to reach the party, there was a very steep set of bleachers. Almost like in a previous dream I had, except these seats weren't rocking which was nice because I know I was scared and that my friend, would have been bad.
Anyway I don't know if you know this about me but I am afraid of heights so seeing this drop was not exactly the happiest moment of my life. My friends considered the difference normal as they lowered themselves down freehandedly like professional rock climbers. Me? I sat there for a while thinking about my options. The conclusion being that there was no other way out, I began my descent.
Luckily there were boxes on each level that I could grab onto in order to maintain my balance and lower myself down. I went slowly, barely getting three rows in by time my friends reached the bottom. Now I'm not sure if you forgot but I was also wearing a dress making this seemingly more difficult. Eventually though I reached the bottom.
Normally as my feet finally stabilized on the ground I would have been happy to have overcome such a feat. That wasn't the case this time however because it was as soon as I took that last hop down to the concrete I realized that I had stored my wallet in one of the boxes as we walked up the hill so as not to lose it at the party. There was a lot of money in there too, specifically a $1000 dollar check that I had received earlier this week. Retracing my steps slowly it didn't take long for me to find the wallet and the money but I was slow, and checking each of the little safes on the way up was a tedious task.
I reached the bottom a second time and remembered that we were supposed to be having a giant family dinner tonight over at my grandfather's house and that all of the cousins were in town. I walked over to his house and was greeted by my father who somehow knew about my misfortune earlier when I had misplaced the wallet even without me mentioning it.
"Did you find your wallet?" were the last words spoken before my eyes were opened.

The Performance

I was in a large room with no doors. Locked in, I should say. I know I was completing a task for someone but I didn't know who. Nor do I remember what I was supposed to do. All I remember is grabbing an object from near the door and then lying flat on the ground hands glued to my side as if that was the end of my test. Maybe I was playing dead. Maybe I was dying. I lay there with my eyes closed waiting for something to happen and then all the sudden I couldn't breathe.
There had been a full crowd; all of the members of my hall had been watching me struggle the entire time as if watching a play. I hadn't paid attention to them until now however when Jared Ross broke off from the group and walked closer and closer to me ready to play a trick on my paralyzed body. He had placed a portion of his shoe in my mouth as I slept, cutting off the air supply. It was only a joke to him, but to me it was my life. I gagged, attempted to flail my arms to signal that I couldn't breathe but my limbs were not under my control and wouldn't budge. Every time he shifted his weight I saw a shimmer of light and reached for the opening attempting to inhale air as opposed to old rubber.
Then I heard my name being called from a distance. Jared immediately pulled his shoe away and I could feel the air rushing back into my lungs. I was alive. I lay still for a moment then I heard my name being called again. And woke up.

The Wedding

I entered the room nervously, knowing I was out of place. Not in terms of clothing though. I wore jeans and a white t-shirt and the rest of the room had on very similar attire. I sat down in the bleachers with not much butt room and a very tall setting in which my toes barely reached the top of the next row. Each row also swayed back and forth like porch swings... but nobody else seemed to make them move. It was only me! Bleachers weren't normal bleachers. Once I started swaying it was hard to stop. The kind lady next to me did keep trying to help me as she giggled at my unfortunate state. That's when i figured out that i was in the midst of a wedding. Nobody was dressed up, but the atmosphere was one of joy and love which are the ingredients to a perfect ceremony.
I finally calmed down enough that the row stopped rocking. Seemed to me like it moved on anxiety alone and I had a lot of it. Women dressed in nice sweaters and elaborate robes entered the arena from the bottom left. They circled the crowd, weaving in and out of the rows playing some form of patty cake with each other till they were right in front of me. Then one of the three ladies missed her cue. They stopped for a moment, talked about the mistake, fixed it and moved on. Nobody seemed to notice. Or care. Not your typical wedding if I may say so myself.
My leg slipped and the bench rocked again, almost as if to pinpoint my nervousness and turn all eyes in my direction. The preacher looked at me and laughed, mentioning how silly it was that the bench was rocking while nothing was happening. The boy sitting to my right grabbed my hand and told me to relax. "It's just a wedding," he said. I turned to look at him... and woke up.

In the Beginning

In the Beginning there was LOVE, LOVE, LOVE. LOVE IS ALL YOU NEED. hehe. nah but for real I'm blogging. who would have thought? Started yesterday, hince the near clean slate. Not really sure what I'm doing but we'll see how it goes...
I have been writing down stuff I've done every day on some microsoft word document almost like a diary but I guess this is better? I don't even know. I think I'll keep that to myself. Anyways.
Wanna know why Simba's father died? Cause he couldn't MUFASA. joke. laugh. or dont. Whatev.
So since I'm pretty bad at writing stories or random thoughts and don't really know where I'm going with this at all I was just going to make this a dream blog. Because last night I dreamt I wrote Lord of the Rings. I was Tolkien in my sleep. joke again. geez. (say it outloud if you don't get it)
Only problem is last night I didn't really sleep well so that wasn't exactly the best start to a dream blog. Have you ever read Dogs of Babel by Carolyn Parkhurst? Kind of like how Lexy wrote down whatever she dreamt on a little notepad. Cept everytime I've tried to write down my dreams they become more and more detailed as I remember them you know? One or two words cannot capture the full effect of my night. I don't know. It's wierd. Get used to it. I'm wierd.
Now that you know my intentions with this blog I guess I'm free to go. Sweet Dreams!
